The New Balance 1400 v2 launches next month with a complete redesign, but the original 1400 has served New Balance well and has been a top performance shoe for competitive runners over the past year.

Case in point: The women on Team NB (above) are big fans of the 1400 for base training and tempo runs on the road and track. OK, they may be just a little biased, considering they get a paycheck from New Balance. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that the 1400 has been a very well liked shoe among our customers as well.

Praise for the 1400

Here are just a couple recent comments from customers who dig the 1400:

Wore them for a workout last night and they were awesome. Probably my new marathon shoe. Very responsive midsole, upper very flexible, zero hotspots, and lightweight. – Brad, Gurnee, IL

I find myself always going to this shoe, no matter the distance. They are the lightest shoe I’ve ever owned and they are amazing! – Britney, Carlsbad, CA

Wow! I have about 30 pair of shoes in my rotation and bought a pair of RC1400 and RC1600 couple of weeks ago. Tried the RC1400 today and was very very impressed. – Espen, Norway

God’s gift to runners. Seriously this shoe is like butter. This shoe can handle them all, save for long runs. It’s really well cushioned and the seamless upper is amazing. – Matt, St. Paul, MN

1400 v2: What to Expect

So what should we expect in the update to this popular shoe, launching in October? The design is all new but the intent remains the same: a lightweight racer with the responsiveness for speedwork and the cushioning for longer distances. Other notables:

Weight Reduction: New Balance lists weights of 6.3 oz for a Men’s 9 and 5.4 oz for a Women’s 7. That’s almost an ounce lighter on the guy’s side and a few tenths of an ounce less on the women’s side.

Same Offset: By our measurements, the 1400 v2 continues on with the 9mm offset of the original.

Open Mesh: The new design sports a breathable air mesh for increased ventilation.

RevLite Midsole: The 1400 continues to use New Balance’s lightweight cushioning compound with the same responsiveness and durability of foams that are 30% heavier.
